Trade for Development Initiative
Sidley’s Trade for Development pro bono initiative, founded in 2018, focuses on advancing sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the world’s least developed and low-income developing countries. Our lawyers and economists provide advice on and analysis of the strategic use of trade and investment policy to address the challenges typically faced by least-developed country governments, trade associations and their subject-matter experts.  Our approach combines legal, technical and strategic advice, including specific services such as:
  • Assisting countries in identifying available trade and development policy tools
  • Drafting and reviewing policy instruments
  • Researching and analyzing legal and regulatory issues related to international economic law
  • Researching and preparing memoranda to inform policy decisions
  • Training government officials on key developments in international economic law
  • Providing an economic analysis of trade-related policies
