Pressure for a Fair Election
Sidley organized and drafted the brief on behalf of former national security officials in Heindel v. Andino. The goal of the case was to compel South Carolina to ensure that voters would have access to a voting system that counts all ballots accurately. Once the appeal was fully briefed, South Carolina’s State Election Commission announced that it had entered a contract to purchase new voting machines that would replace the iVotronic machines statewide. The lawsuit created important pressure contributing to that outcome, especially on the legislature’s decision to provide funding for a new system.
