Political Asylum and Immigrants’ Rights Project
Through the Political Asylum and Immigrants’ Rights Project, Sidley handles impact litigation and individual representations, including asylum cases and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases. Sidley also partners with several legal departments of our corporate clients to host clinics and staff cases to help asylees and refugees obtain lawful permanent resident status and bring family members to the United States.
Over the past year, our lawyers have teamed up across offices to defend the rights of large groups of immigrants who are seeking to build a new life in our country. The cases we have taken on address the forcible separation of families at the U.S. border; the lack of health services for immigrants; and the right for all immigrants to have both access to counsel and to public benefits.

“AILA and its membership are incredibly grateful to have worked with Sidley to ensure families retain the lawful opportunity to immigrate to the United States. Sidley’s gracious time and partnership have uniquely positioned us for a long-lasting partnership in the pursuit of justice for all.”
