Food Truck Fight
Sidley represented three professors of economics and urban planning as amici curiae in a challenge to Baltimore’s regulations on food trucks. Baltimore prohibits food trucks “serving the same type of food product” as a brick-and-mortar restaurant from operating within 300 feet of that restaurant. Two food truck vendors, Pizza di Joey and Madame BBQ, challenged the regulations, asserting that they made it virtually impossible to operate in prime commercial areas.  The professors, supporting the challengers, argued that the regulation stifles competition and was based on a series of assumptions that were countered by economic principles.
